Founded in 2017, East Coast Lawns grew from a personal decision about family, service, and how to spend the time we have.
Our story, in Greg’s words
My mother, Kristin Martin, was a registered nurse who spent her working life caring for others. She was 41 when she died. Losing my mother changed how I thought about my own life.
I pursued work as an EMT and deputy sheriff, but eventually realized I needed a different balance between serving others and being present for my family.
In 2017, with my wife and children behind me, I started East Coast Lawns. We lived carefully while building a business that could support our family and help others reclaim time of their own.
That purpose still matters to me: meaningful work, time with family, and opportunities for people to build a career helping others.

Greg and Melissa Loar are the founders behind East Coast Lawns.

Co-Founder
Greg founded East Coast Lawns in 2017 after deciding to build a different balance between work, family, and service. His background as an EMT and deputy sheriff is part of the story behind the company’s purpose.
Melissa Loar
Co-Founder & Office Manager
Melissa earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Marketing from Radford University. Before co-founding East Coast Lawns LLC, she worked as an assistant branch manager at a consumer finance office. A mother and business owner, she now serves as ECL’s co-founder and office manager, helping keep the business organized and its day-to-day work coordinated.
